Melanie “Mel B” Brown, also known as Scary Spice, is getting a divorce from her husband of 10 years.
The Spice Girl filed for divorce from producer Stephen Belafonte on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. The pair have a 5-year-old daughter together, for whom Brown is seeking joint custody of. The singer has also asked the court to deny requests for spousal support.
Brown and Belafonte married in 2007, after five months of dating. The singer and America’s Got Talent judge was previously married to Jimmy Gulzar, and dated Eddie Murphy. She has a child with both men.
One strange part of the separation is that Brown listed the date of separation as December 28, but she posted a loving Instagram post about Belafonte on February 6.
The post shows the Brown passionately giving Belafonte a big smooch at a candlelit restaurant, with a caption that reads, “My baby boo … We have been through everything that would normally tear couples apart and we have come out on the other side stronger. You loved me before I even [knew] how to really love myself. You are my world, honey and let’s not forget you are a bit of a dickhead too xxxx.”
