Melania Trump thanked model Emily Ratajkowski for defending her after she alleges she heard a reporter call the First Lady a “hooker.”
Ratajkowski said in a tweet yesterday that a reporter for the New York Times referred to Trump as a lady of the evening. “Sat next to a journalist from the NYT last night who told me ‘Melania is a hooker.'” the tweet read.
The model, who was an avid supporter of Bernie Sanders, said that regardless of your political beliefs, “it’s crucial to call this out for what it is: slut shaming,” she continued. “I don’t care about her nudes or sexual history and no one should.” Lastly, she spoke out against sexist insults. “Gender specific attacks are disgusting sexist bulls–t.”
“Applause to all women around the world who speak up, stand up and support other women!” tweeted Trump from her @FLOTUS account. She tagged Ratajkowski and wrote the hashtags “#PowerOfEveryWoman @PowerOfTheFirstLady.”
The New York Times said in a statement that they have reprimanded the anonymous reporter. “At a party last night, a Times reporter who does not cover Washington or politics, referred to an unfounded rumor regarding Melania Trump,” said a rep for the newspaper. “The comment was not intended to be public, but it was nonetheless completely inappropriate and should not have occurred. Editors have talked to the reporter in question about the lapse.”
