President Donald Trump is known for his constant remarks blasting “fake” media outlets – and now it seems his wife Melania Trump has picked up the fight as well. During an interview on the opioid crisis on Tuesday with conservative commentator Eric Bolling, Melania spoke directly to the media about their coverage.
“I’d also like to take a moment to challenge the media to cover this very real issue as often as possible,” she said. “In 2017, we lost at least 72,000 Americans to overdoses — that’s 197 lost American lives per day, more than 8 lost lives per hour. I challenge the press to devote as much time to the lives lost and the potential lives that could be saved by dedicating the same amount of coverage that you do to idle gossip or trivial stories.”
50 CELEBRITIES WHO DIED IN 2018 – TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW
The dig at media outlets is the second time the First Lady has dubbed stories about her husband “gossip.” The first time was back in 2018, when she took the opportunity during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity to berate the media for focusing on “gossip” and “nonsense.”
This time, the First Lady made the comments during her three-state trip around the U.S. to promote her Be Best campaign, which works to promote the well-being of American children in terms of their well-being, social media use, and opioid abuse. She was speaking with Bolling, who lost his son to an overdose in 2017, about the pressing need for more of a focus on American youth’s drug problem. After the discussion, Melania posted a thank-you to Bolling on her Twitter account.
