Melania Trump
Melania Trump hasn’t been seen in public for 20 days, attracting curiosity and conspiracy theories.
The first lady’s final public appearance was made on May 10 along President Donald Trump, as the couple welcomed the three North Korean hostages. Shortly thereafter, she was admitted into the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for a kidney surgery, according to her spokesperson Stephanie Grisham. Melania tweeted two days after her surgery, thanking the establishment and all who’ve wished her well:
While Trump has continued to periodically tweet, her offline profile has dropped dramatically. Conspiracy theories have begun spreading, suggesting that she has perhaps moved back to New York or is cooperating with Robert Mueller and his special counsel. Grisham refutes these claims, noting, “Sadly, we deal with conspiracy theories all the time — so this is nothing new, just more silly nonsense.”

While a 20-day gap is a sizable one, it may not be too outlandish for the first lady given her preference for privacy. Moreover, she has historically distanced herself from her husband, sometimes making separate travel plans. Grisham doesn’t believe it’s “a long absence” at all given the circumstances, saying, “She was hospitalized for almost a week and is now home and recovering. She has had several meetings internally with staff and will continue to do so this week.”

For what it’s worth, the first lady’s latest tweet implores the public to “rest assured” that she’s present at the White House, “working hard on behalf of children & the American people!”
