The White House put up red Christmas trees this year, and people online were quick to criticize the decision, although Melania Trump defended the choice of color.

The 48-year-old first lady reportedly called the all-red trees — which are adorn the White House’s East colonnade and are part of an “American Treasures”-themed ornamentation — “beautiful” and “fantastic.”

The red trees can briefly be seen in this video Trump tweeted on Monday:

“We are in 21st Century and everybody has a different taste,” Trump stated Wednesday at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

“I think they look fantastic. I hope everybody will come over and visit it,” the first lady added. “In real life, they look even more beautiful. You are all welcome to visit the White House, the people’s house.”

Trump’s remarks came during an appearance for her “Be Best” campaign, which centers on fighting cyber-bullying and opioid addiction.

People on social media clearly didn’t seem to take the 40 crimson red or “blood red” trees seriously, as dozens of jokes and memes rapidly began surfacing on Twitter. The topiaries were compared, among other things, to the red cloaks from the women on the popular television series The Handmaid’s Tale and the sea of blood surrounding twin girls in the 1980 movie The Shining.

Some people also mocked the first lady for the irony of her “Be Best” initiative given her husband’s constant attacks on his opponents, and for her infamous “I Really Don’t Care. Do U?” jacket she wore to the southern U.S. border earlier this year.

Here are some of the best jokes and memes about the trees:
