Former First Lady Melania Trump, who famously didn’t make any comments condemning the Capitol Riots until almost a week afterward, made the dubious claim on Fox News Thursday that she wasn’t even aware of them while they were happening.

When the riots broke out, which began as a protest against the 2020 Presidential election results, Melania was “fulfilling one of my duties as First Lady of the United States of America, and accordingly, I was unaware of what was simultaneously transpiring at the U.S. Capitol Building.”

She argued that she was busy “taking archival photographs of all the renovations” of the historic rooms of the White House. In the days following the riots, Melania said that she was photographing rugs in the Executive Residence and the East Wing.

She also countered a claim by her former aide Stephanie Grisham that she refused to tweet a statement decrying violence at the Capitol, saying Grisham “failed to provide insight and information,” into the attacks at the moment. She claimed she would have “immediately denounced the violence that occurred at the Capitol Building,” if she had “all the details.”

Grisham resigned from her position as Melania’s Chief of Staff hours after rioters breached the Capitol. In her tell-all book, I’ll Take Your Questions Now, Grisham claimed that Secret Service gave Melania the nickname “Rapunzel” because she hardly left the White House residence, and was enraged by stories of her husband’s affairs breaking the news.

She even allegedly tried to poke at Donald Trump by cropping him out of photos and neglecting to mention him in tweets and may have even placed a good-looking military aide near her so she could take his arm during Trump’s State of the Union Address.
