Once again, Mel Gibson's mouth is getting him into trouble. Gibson, 56, who famoulsy manages to have his long, rambling tirades about everything from ex-wife Oksana Grigorieva to his anti-Semitic remarks, caught on tape, has now gone off on Basic Instinct screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, who was supposed to be penning Gibson's next movie, The Maccabees.

Eszterhas alleges that he and his family were houseguests at Gibson's Costa Rica home in December when Gibson's frustration about the pace of Eszterhas' work sent him off on a rant that Eszterhas' 15-year-old son, Nick, happened to record on his iPhone.

"Why don't I have a first draft of The Maccabees?" Gibson demanded, as heard in the audio of the rant, available on TheWrap. "What the f**k have you been doing?" Gibson's favorite angry topic, ex Grigorieva, is also referred to on the audio recording. "I am earning money for a filthy little c**ksucker who takes advantage of me," the Mad Max star raved.

Eszterhas responded by writing a nine-page letter to Gibson in which he said he had "come to the conclusion that the reason you won't make The Maccabees is the ugliest possible one. You hate Jews."

Gibson is reportedly looking into whether or not Eszterhas secretly taping him is in accordance with Costa Rican law, and if he can sue Eszterhas for the act of recording him, reports Fox News. For his part, Eszterhas maintains that his son Nick was "adamant" that he release the recording to the media, and that he is not trying to ruin Gibson's career.

"The bottom line is it shows to me how badly he needs help," Eszterhas told TheWrap. "My interest isn't to damage him with this tape but to prevent damage being done to others, starting with Jews, including Oksana and now, I'm sure, me. I strongly believe that unless he seeks and receives some kind of psychiatric help, someone is going to get hurt."

The Maccabees, about the Jewish revolt in 2nd Century B.C., has been tabled by production studio Warner Bros. for the time being.
