Mel B Sounds Off On Becoming An ‘America’s Got Talent’ Judge
Mel B, the Spice Girl’s “Scary Spice,” made her debut as a judge on NBC’s America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night alongside fashion maven Heidi Klum – joining Howard Stern and Howie Mandel. Sharon Osbourne took her leave of the judges panel at the end of the seventh season.
While many know that Klum is no stranger to judging talent competitions – her hit series Project Runway recently wrapped up its eleventh season on the air – Mel B has also frequented the judges’ chair. She’s previously offered her critiques and words of wisdom on both the U.K. and Australian versions of The X Factor. And, the Spice Girl singer couldn’t be happier to be joining the America’s Got Talent panel.
“I got the phone call and got offered the job and was like, "Yeah!" I love this show,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And of course the fact that it's now in New York at Radio City Music Hall — that's a legendary place that makes the show even more exciting. It's a great family show, and people love watching it.”
Mel B is also happy with the fellow judges she gets to work with on the talent competition, which features everyone from magicians and illusionists to your more standard singers and dangers. “I've known Heidi for quite some time, and we get along like a house on fire,” she revealed. “We give off a girl-power vibe. Howard and Howie are absolutely hilarious.”
How does Mel B see herself as a judge? Simply put, honest. She says, “At the end of the day, whether it's a magic act or a dancing act or a singing act, if I want to buy tickets to come see your show, I'm going to like it.”
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays on NBC at 9/8c.
