Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Arizona Senator John McCain, eulogized her father at his funeral, which was held on Saturday. In her eulogy, she tearfully paid tribute to her father and also issued a quick jab at the expense of Donald Trump.

McCain’s memorial service was held at the Washington National Cathedral, and his 33-year-old daughter poignantly honored McCain’s public service, bringing up his time fighting in the Vietnam War.

“He was a great man,” claimed the conservative co-host of The View. “We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness, the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who live lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served.”

“The America of John McCain is generous and welcoming and bold. She is resourceful and confident and secure. She meets her responsibilities, She speaks quietly because she is strong. America does not boast because she has no need to. The America of John McCain has no need to be great again because America was always great,” Meghan said, referencing Trump’s 2016 presidential slogan.

Her comment regarding those “who live lives of comfort and privilege” is also a thinly veiled reference to Trump, who procured five deferments allowing him to avoid serving in the war. Notably, Trump and McCain publicly did not see eye to eye on numerous issues throughout the last two years. Trump had infamously attacked McCain’s service, suggesting the veteran isn’t a war hero, claiming, “I prefer people who weren’t captured.” Trump, whose rhetoric seemed to have spread to at least some of his staff, also refused to acknowledge McCain when he signed a bill named after him.

Trump fell short in honoring his former Republican even following his death. On Monday, Trump initially refused to respond to any questions regarding the senator, instead spending the day talking and tweeting about unrelated topics. However, the White House did eventually lower its American flag to half-staff in tribute to McCain as well as the victims in a recent shooting that occurred at a Madden video game tournament held at the Florida-based GLHF Game Bar.

Notably, while McCain wanted his former rivals Barack Obama and George W. Bush to speak at his funeral, he did not want Trump present for the event. In his stead, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner attended. Bill Clinton attended McCain’s funeral as well.
