Jen Selter shot to Instagram stardom with her fitness photos showing off her particularly toned butt and has now signed a fitness management deal with The Legacy Agency (TLA).
Selter, 20, earned the title of Best Butt on Instagram by posting photos of herself showing off her body on the photo-sharing site, earning her over 2 million followers. As of Jan. 23, 2014, Selter has a total of 2,076,281 followers with 344 posts.
Selter’s growing popularity on Instagram has cultivated her fan base and made her a fitness icon for young women. Selter says her goal is to be a fitness motivator, a sort of health guru, and people are already calling her the next Jillian Michaels (celebrity trainer on The Biggest Loser).
“We believe she can be the next Jillian Michaels… Jen’s going to grow as a person, as a fitness expert, in these next years. She’s here for the long term,” TLA agent Andrew Witlieb said.
Witlieb revealed that Selter caught his attention with her social media presence, something that was born out of Selter being a self described computer nerd.
“This was a combo of health, wellness and fitness meets social media. This girl’s really onto something,” Witlieb said.
Selter, a social media addict, spent her days after graduating high school attending cosmetology school and working at a gym where she started exercising more and more. Eventually, Selter became enamored with the world of fitness and began motivational Instagram and Tumblr pages, where she began to post photos of herself and gain popularity. Soon after, she began receiving offers from companies for sponsorship and advertisements in her photos. With the shout-out advertisements, Selter can make thousands for one photo (see below), and she quit her job working at the gym to pursue a career as a fitness guru.
In the future, Selter hopes to become known for more than just her body, but her personality as well.
“I’m mysterious. Nobody knows my personality. It’s interesting to me how I build a following of fangirls and fanboys who like me, when they don’t really know me. I’m one of the friendliest, nicest, people out there. I think I would gain another million if people really knew who I was,” Selter said in an interview with Elle.
Selter does have a sense of humor about being known for her toned butt, which she insists is all natural, and credits her Best Butt title to the camera.
“It’s all about the angles, let’s be honest,” Selter admitted to Elle.
Selter currently acts as spokeswoman for fitness company Gameplan Nutrition and is working on a line of workout clothing.
Critics may point at Selter’s photos and say that she’s not so much a fitness guru as a wannabe model, but Selter takes the criticism in stride, emphasizing her main goal: to motivate people to be healthy:
“Yes, [my Instagram account] can be showy, but I’ve seen a lot worse. And if it motivates people to get their butts up and go to the gym, why not?”
