Burger King and McDonalds superfans, prepare to be disappointed. McDonalds has officially declined Burger Kings offer to create a hybrid of the BigMac and the Whopper as a way of supporting Peace Day on Sept. 21. In a Facebook post, McDonalds’ CEO Steve Easterbrook turned down BK’s philanthropic offer:

In an open letter that ran in the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune, Burger King proposed creating a burger that would include “all the tastiest bits of your Big Mac and our Whopper.”
Burger King went as far as to design special packaging and uniforms for a pop-up location in Atlanta, which happens to be between the McDonald’s headquarters in Chicago and Burger King’s headquarters in Miami.
Sales proceeds would have been donated to Peace One Day, a nonprofit group seeking to raise awareness of the International Day of Peace, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981.
“Corporate activism on this scale creates mass awareness and awareness creates action and action saves lives,” Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day, said in a video posted on the website, mcwhopper.com.
But since McDonalds can’t seem to check its ego at the drive-thru, this awareness won’t be raised anytime soon.
