Matthew McConaughey And Channing Tatum Pal Around At 'Magic Mike' Premiere

The skies may have been clear, but it was raining men on the red carpet outside Regal Cinemas L.A. Live on Sunday night as the eye-candy stars of Steven Soderbergh's new highly anticipated male-stripper extravaganza, Magic MikeChanning Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer and Adam Rodriguez — showed up wearing suits and tuxes that unfortunately didn't snap off. Oh, and costars Olivia Munn and Cody Horn were also there.

The story behind Magic Mike, which is loosely inspired by Tatum's own stint as a stripper before he became one of the most talked-about new faces on the block, hit Soderbergh like a ton of bricks. "I was like, okay, you really want to do this? You really want to make this into a film?" Tatum recalled asking Soderbergh after the director had discovered Tatum's talents in 2011's Haywire (also starring Antonio Banderas, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas and Gina Carano), according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Other actors called upon to "work it" in front of the cameras had similar hesitations, like Rodriguez, who considered the choreography of the film to be "the scariest challenge that I've ever had." McConaughey, on the other hand, had nothing but faith in Soderbergh, whom he had always wanted to work with. "He's very much minimalist as far [as] when he implements himself," McConaughey said of the Ocean's Eleven director. "He hires people for a reason, so you better show up with your bags packed and ready to work, and know your man. That kind of schedule is great for an actor because as time suppresses, you don't have time to over-think stuff. Don't talk about it; show me."

Tatum, who will also appear in Soderbergh's next film, The Bitter Pill, costarring The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Rooney Mara and Rock of Ages' Catherine Zeta-Jones, agrees with his pal and costar McConaughey. "The greatest part is showing up and knowing that you're gonna be looking across from a buddy; you've got 12 hours with a good friend, and you're gonna turn on the cameras and just everything goes," Tatum raved of working with Soderbergh.

Magic Mike hits theaters June 29.
