Toy company Mattel apologized after fans discovered a link to an adult website on the packaging of the Wicked dolls.
The company’s “Wicked Fashion dolls” depict some of the film’s main characters, including Ariana Grande’s “Galinda” and Cynthia Erivo‘s “Elphaba.”
While the dolls were intended to be an exciting addition to the upcoming film, buyers were surprised when they found a URL on the boxes directing them to an adult website bearing the same name as the film.
Mattel has since issued an apology for the misprint.
“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” said Mattel. “We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children.”
The statement read, “Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.”
Although many were taken by surprise after noticing the link to the adult film site, some are trying to take advantage of Mattel’s mess-up.
Multiple sellers have been seen listing the toys on eBay for prices as high as $500, with some advertising that product as “RARE URL ERROR MISPRINT.” Originally, the dolls retailed for just under $40.
Due to the explicit nature of the printing error, the line was pulled from many stores, including Walmart, Macy’s, Kohl’s and DSW.
