Matt LeBlanc is set to host the popular BBC series Top Gear for the next two years.
LeBlanc co-hosted alongside Chris Evans this past season, though Evans left the show abruptly in July. He said he had given it his “best shot,” and had decided that the best thing he could do to “help the cause” was to leave.
LeBlanc was very popular among viewers of Cycle 23 of the show, says BBC Studios Director Mark Linsey, and spoke of LeBlanc’s “humor, warmth and obvious passion for cars and for the show.” His first season reached over 30 million views in the UK alone. His first season as host, which will be Cycle 24, will feature many from Cycle 23’s team, including Chris Harris and Rory Reid.
LeBlanc also has a new CBS comedy series Man With a Plan, which is scheduled to air on Oct. 24. The actor said in August that this show was his top priority, but that was of course before signing the Top Gear contract.
Former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will debut their new series The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime on Nov. 18.
