Matt Damon recently revealed that – as rumors had predicted – he will be reprising the part of Jason Bourne in a forthcoming Bourne sequel.

Matt Damon As Jason Bourne

Damon admitted on Friday that fans of the Bourne series will soon see him back in action as the CIA assassin. “It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out,” Damon told E! News. “Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

Previously Damon had been vague when asked about the possibility of another Bourne movie. Back in May, he said of the last Bourne film he’d made, “It felt like such a good way to end it the last time. He did add, “But having said that, I love that character and I’d love to see what happened to him.”

Ben Affleck, Damon’s longtime friend and business partner, also mentioned the actor’s return to the action franchise while hinting that his Batman physique will be short-lived. “[Matt’s] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness,” joked Affleck. “So….”

The last Bourne film, The Bourne Ultimatum, hit theaters back in 2007 and grossed more that $442 million at the box office worldwide.
