Matt Damon is not moving to Australia because of President Donald Trump, in fact, he isn’t moving there at all.
Earlier this week it was inaccurately reported that Damon purchased a new home in South Wales near Chris Hemsworth. Reports have also been claiming he’s making the move due to the new Commander and Chief. An inaccurate “exclusive source” told Page Six the actor is moving his family and himself to Australia because he “disagrees with Trump’s policies.” Damon spoke in the past about being “nervous” about Trump in an interview on ABC News but later in the same interview wished him well and said, “we really have to be rooting for him right now.”
The source went further claiming, “Matt’s saying the move will not impact his work – as he will travel to wherever his projects are shooting. He’s also telling friends he wants to have a safe place to raise his kids.”
Damon has four daughters with his wife Luciana Barroso.
A representative of Damon confirmed he was not moving. “Matt has visited Australia several times recently. But he has not bought a house there nor is he moving there.”

The inaccurate article also alleged that Damon’s move had something to do with his comments about the #MeToo movement, expressing that there is a “spectrum of behavior” that should be considered. He later apologized saying, “I really wish I’d listened a lot more before I weighed in on this. Ultimately, what it is for me is that I don’t want to further anybody’s pain with anything that I do or say. And so for that I’m really sorry.”
