Matt Damon and Ben Affleck cheerfully accepted the Guys of the Decade Award at Spike TV’s 10th Annual Guys’ Choice Awards

Matt Damon & Ben Affleck: Guys Of The Decade

Damon and Affleck, who broke out in Hollywood together for writing and starring in Good Will Hunting, seemed glad to accept the Guys of the Decade Award. Up on the podium to receive the honor, the two exchanged a bit of banter – and got in some digs at their famous pals as well.

“I think it goes without saying that this is an award Matt and I have been dreaming about since we were little boys,” Affleck quipped. “I did Gigli and Matt did that Liberace movie and all of a sudden it all seemed out of reach. Then I did Batman and all of a sudden, it was back in reach again. Now we’re the…coveted Dudes of the Decade…the Guys of the D–kheads?”

Damon chimed in, “No, the D–kheads of the Decade Award. What is it called? It’s the Guys of the Decade.” He went on, “We will cherish this, and we want to recognize some of the other nominees. Some of the dudes who weren’t quite as decade-worthy: George Clooney and Brad Pitt.”

“F–k you guys!” Affleck joked, before he named other duos – James Franco and Jonah Hill, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, and Liam and Chris Hemsworth. “We’re honored to share this fake award with all of you,” Damon said. “And after decades and decades of friendship, I want to thank my ultimate man of the decade–”

“Thank you,” Affleck interrupted.

“I wasn’t talking to you,” Damon replied to laughs.

Last week, Damon gave the commencement address at MIT, located in his and Affleck’s hometown of Cambridge, Mass. During his comments, Damon took a moment to remember when he and Affleck were fighting to break into the business, and how that experience has continued to shape him.

“For all the amazing successes I’ve been lucky to share, few things have shaped me more than the auditions Ben and I used to go on as young actors, where we’d get on a bus, show up in New York, wait our turn, cry our hearts out for a scene and then be told, ‘Okay, thanks,’ meaning game over,” Damon said. “We used to call it, ‘Okay, thanksed,’ and those experiences became our honor.”

The Guys Choice Awards will air June 9 on Spike at 9/8c.
