Matt Damon Admits He Only Recently Stopped Using Homophobic Slur After His Daughter ‘Educates’ Him

Matt Damon is facing backlash after recently opening up about cutting a homophobic slur out of his vocabulary after his daughter educated him on the repercussions of using the derogatory word.

“The word that my daughter calls the ‘f-slur for a homosexual’ was commonly used when I was a kid, with a different application,” Damon said in an interview with the UK The Sunday Times.

“I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter. She left the table. I said, ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie ‘Stuck on You!'” Damon said. “She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. I said, ‘I retire the f-slur!’ I understood.”

The Oscar winner, who is promoting his newest film Stillwater that hit theaters this weekend, sent the Internet in a frenzy with many fans wondering why the actor made the odd decision of sharing this story with the world.

“I want to know what word Matt Damon has replaced f****t with,” comedian Billy Eichner tweeted, amassing nearly 30,000 likes.

Comedian Jenny Johnson chimed in as well, calling out the actor’s ignorant behavior as unacceptable.

“Matt Damon’s teen daughter told him f****t is a homophobic slur and to stop using it,” the comedian wrote. “Matt Damon who works in Hollywood. Matt Damon who went to Harvard. Matt Damon who was in ‘BEYOND THE CANDELABRA’. I’m now worried what else she’s gonna have to teach him.”

Damon did not specify which of his four daughters he shares with his wife, Luciana Barraso, was the one to open the 50-year-old actor’s eyes on why he still uses the offensive term. He has three daughters Isabella, 15, Gia, 12, and Stella, 10. He is also the stepfather of Alexia, 23, from his wife’s prior relationship.

Beside’s Damon’s controversial interview with the UK Sunday Times, his film Stillwater has received mixed reviews from critics and was called out by Amanda Knox, whom the film’s plot revolves around for the inaccurate depiction of the events that occurred in 2007. Knox claims writer and director Tom McCarthy, had “rip[ped] off my story without my consent at the expense of my reputation.”
