Massive Spill At Morton Salt Factory Buries Cars

In what looked like a scene out of Scarface, a spill at Chicago’s Morton salt factory slammed through a wall and ended up burying several cars in the Acura dealership next door. Pictures of the massive spill went viral on Twitter as well as other media.

Denise Lauer, Morton Salt Inc. director of communications, said in a statement, “A side wall of our storage facility on Elston Avenue in Chicago collapsed this afternoon, spilling road salt outside of the facility and onto a neighboring property. We are working with local authorities to review and respond to the situation. There are no reported injuries. We will provide additional details as appropriate.”

It is not entirely clear at this point what caused the spill in the first place, though Morton Salt is investigating the issue alongside authorities.
