Mary Kate attending and jumping in the Hampton Classic Horseshow
Mary Kate Olsen is a woman of many talents, and one of them is horse riding.
The actress and entrepreneur completed a course on horseback at the 42nd annual Hampton Classic Horse Show, which opened last Sunday. The week-long event takes place in Bridgehampton, New York, out on Long Island. Hundreds of riders compete in an open jump competition as well as a hunter derby.
On Monday, disabled riders got to enter the competition ring. “It takes a lot of guts to get up on a horse and start riding, but I think it takes a lot more to say to yourself, ‘I’m going to improve my skill and I’m going to keep going until I can be the best I can,'” said 15-year-old Tyler Armak, the 2017 champion of the Independent Equitation division of the Long Island Horse Show Series for Riders with Disabilities. “‘And I’m going to improve my horse along with me.’ Currently we are sitting right next to the grand prix ring at the Hampton Classic. Yesterday, this ring was filled with major athletes from all over the world. My major long-term goal for this sport is I want to compete here. In this very spot in that very ring. But I want to be a part of that jumper division.”
This was not Olsen’s first time, as she’s graced the ring at each Classic since 2013. The 30-year-old fashion designer and her horse gracefully competed as they jumped hurdles and trotted around the grounds. She was joined by her husband Olivier Sarkozy, who cheered her on from the stands.
