Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’ Netflix Series Releases First Trailer
The highly anticipated Netflix original, Marvel‘s Defenders, has released its first trailer.
NETFLIX DROPS FIRST DEFENDERS TRAILER
The miniseries combines the heroes of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist. The first three of which were named critical successes, while the last garnered a lot of negative reviews amid accusations of whitewashing.
The Defenders trailer is very aware of this discrepancy in the reception of the Marvel series. When Danny Rand (played by Finn Jones) introduces himself to the others, he says, “I’m the immortal Iron Fist,” to which Cage (Mike Colter) replies, “you’re what?” And later, when the blind Daredevil’s mentor Stick (Charlie Cox) describes the team, he simply calls Rand, “the kid with the glowing fist.”
Set to a slowed-down rendition of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are,” the ad describes the so-called “War for New York” to the new team of superheroes who need to take on the evil Sigourney Weaver.
“We make quite a team,” says Rand around the dinner table. “Bullet-proof, blind ninja, whatever it is you are,” he says looking at Jones. “Classy,” she says, filling in the blank for him. The trailer looks action-packed with it’s own style of superhero humor.
