Marvel Obtains The Rights To Daredevil From Netflix

On November 29, Marvel was finally able to get the rights to the Daredevil character back from Netflix after its show was canceled. Daredevil was the first character to get his own show that takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Netflix and will be the third of the characters with their own Netflix show to have the rights reverted back to Marvel after its cancelation. The first was Iron Fist on October 12 and Luke Cage on October 19. The rights to the characters of The Punisher and Jessica Jones will be given back to Marvel on February 18, 2021.

The first season of Daredevil premiered in April 2015 and received critical acclaim from both critics and fans. The second season soon followed in March 2016 and while it was not as successful as its predecessor, it still received high praise for its action scenes and performance from Charlie Cox as the title character. A crossover between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist called The Defenders on August 18, 2017. It ran for eight episodes and received mixed reviews from fans and critics, who panned the pacing, story and performance of Finn Jones as Iron Fist but praised the action scenes and chemistry between Cox, Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter.

After a long gap between seasons 2 and 3, the man without fear finally received a third season which aired in October 2018. Season 3 received universal acclaim after its airing, and is considered by many to be the best season from any of the Marvel Netflix shows. Unfortunately, the series was canceled by Netflix not long after the third season concluded. The main reason for this was reportedly due to the fact that Disney+ was preparing to launch, which would have made it hard to compete with the company that owns most of the Marvel characters. Many people were upset by this news, especially the writers of the show, who felt that there was still more story to tell.

With Marvel getting the rights back, many fans are campaigning for Daredevil to be renewed for a fourth season with the same actors and tone. It is unclear if Disney will allow Marvel to renew Daredevil for season 4, as the series is very dark and comes close to being for adults only. Regardless, fans have been begging for the show to come back, with them using the tagline #SaveDaredevil.
