The Voice‘s Billy Gilman shined Monday night when he performed a stunning version of Martina McBride‘s “Anyway” to score himself a spot in the show’s Top 8.
The 28-year-old former child star has been wowing the judges and the audience week after week, and this was no exception. Even McBride herself saw his performance and wrote a shout out to Gilman on her Facebook page.
The two actually share a bit of history. Years ago, McBride brought a 10-year-old Gilman up onstage with her, and after reviewing the clip, she decided to help him get a record deal. He had a hit single called “One Voice” when he was 11, but his voice changed after puberty, and he started to receive less and less attention.
On The Voice, however, he is back to stardom. “Everyone knows you can sing, they know your story, but, man, I just can’t explain to everybody how special what we’ve just heard is,” said his coach Adam Levine. “I’m blown away, man. I’m amazed by you.”
