Martin Richard, 8-Year Old Victim Of Boston Marathon Bombs, Remembered By Local Community
Martin Richard, 8, was killed during the explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, as he, his sister and mother waited for his father to cross the finish line.
Martin died from injuries incurred during the blast. His sister, Jane Richard, 7, lost her leg and their mother, Denise Richard, suffered a brain injury that required surgery, according to WHDH. Martin’s older brother was unharmed.
Bill Richard, the late victim’s father, is a community leader in the Ashmont section of the Dorchester neighborhood in Boston. His inspired work helped to realize the transformation of the historic Peabody Square. Denise is also a civic leader in the area.
"They are beloved by this community," Ayanna Pressley, a city councilor at large told the Boston Globe. "They contribute in many ways. That's why you see this outpouring. It's surreal. It's tragic." Friends of the Richard family congregated at Tavolo Restaurant on Monday near Peabody Square to grieve with one another.
Three people have died as a result of the Boston Marathon bombs; more than 100 were wounded.
