Neal Peskind, a rep for Marriott, allegedly showed dining companions the video of Erin Andrews that was taken through a peephole at a Marriott hotel.
Pesking testified in court Monday that West End Hotel Partners, the ownership group of the Marriott Nashville at Vanderbilt, was not liable for the Marriott having given out Andrews’ room number to stalker Michael David Barrett, and allowing him to book the adjacent room. The following night, Peskind allegedly was showing the illicitly captured video at his dinner table at a Nashville restaurant.
“He said it was costing him millions so he was going to show it to everyone. His friends were making fun of her and her body,” a bartender at the eatery, Margot Cafe and Bar, wrote on Twitter. “We had to ask him to stop. It was disgusting and horrifying.”
The owner of the establishment, Margot McCormack, backed up her employee with the following statement:
“Based on what I have heard regarding the incident last night, one of my servers was made uncomfortable by activity at one of our tables. It is my understanding the supervisor on duty asked the customer to stop the behavior. I would expect any of my staff to respond to rude or offensive behavior in my restaurant. We take great pride in providing our guests with a quality experience.”
A spokesperson for Peskind defended him, claiming that it was Peskind who tried to put a stop to the showing of the video:
“Last night, Mr. Peskin (sic) and two of his friends, a husband and wife, were having dinner, and the friends brought the video up on their phone, to which he objected and immediately asked them to stop. The video was then turned off. We don’t make light of this situation. Ms. Andrews was the victim of a crime, which has been our position from the beginning and is the reason Mr. Peskin (sic) asked his friends to stop the video. Other comments attributed to Mr. Peskin (sic) surrounding this conversation never occurred.”
Peskind later put out a statement in his own words, once again offering up the suggestion that it was not he who brought the video up on his phone.
“I was at a private dinner meeting with friends. They brought up the allegations, and they started viewing the video. I asked them to stop, and while they did so, it was not as quickly as I had hoped. This incident has been blown into something it was not. I would never disrespect Ms. Andrews and what she has been through. This is a very unfortunate situation that should not be a reflection on West End Hotel Partners or to our commitment to the issues in this case surrounding what happened to her. I sincerely apologize for my participation in what happened. “
Though distasteful, Peskind allegedly showing the video of Andrews at dinner would not have any legal implications in the current trial.
Andrews is suing Marriott for $75 million for negligence, infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy.
