Marlon Wayans Opens Up About Having A Transgender Child

Marlon Wayans spoke about his experience parenting his 23-year-old trans son.

While appearing on The Breakfast Club radio show this weekend, the actor and comedian opened up about his older child, Kai.

“I have a daughter that transitioned into a son,” he said.

Wayans announced that he is working on a new stand-up hour that will either be titled “Skittles” or “Rainbow Child” and will focus on Kai’s journey.

“Not her, his, their transition, but my transition as a parent going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance,” he explained. “I think there’s a lot of parents out there that need to have that message.”

Wayans admitted that the beginning stages of Kai’s transition were “very painful” for him.

“As a parent, I just want my kids to be free. I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves,” he said. “The more you live your truth, the happier your existence.

“And I’m just so proud of them for being them,” Wayans said. “But that don’t mean that they ain’t got jokes!”

Wayans was recently in the news when he was escorted off of a flight for “disturbing the peace.”
