On Sunday, Mark Zuckerberg wrote on his social media platform, Threads, that Elon Musk wasn’t serious about a cage fight.
“Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead,” Zuckerberg said. “If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.”
Zuckerberg, 39, suggested the idea of a fight back in June but said Musk, 52, did not officially agree to it. The public interest in the possible cage fight rose after Meta launched Threads, a competitor to Twitter, in July. Just a few days after, Zuckerberg reported that more than 100 million users had signed up.
In the same Threads post, Zuckerberg wrote, “I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity.” White is the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and according to The New York Times, he was in the process of putting the fight together.
Last week, Musk posted on X, which was previously called Twitter, that the fight would be streamed on the social media platform. He said he was “lifting weights throughout the day, preparing for the fight.”
Zuckerberg, who practices Brazilian jiu-jitsu, competed in two featherweight white belt categories at a California martial arts tournament in May. He won gold and silver at the events.
