Over the weekend, multiple stars joined the anti-Trump “No Kings” protesters in spirited disapproval.

On June 14, millions of people in hundreds of cities took to the streets to protest what they described as Donald Trump’s “authoritarian agenda.” These protests – of which there were over 2,000 – coincide with the recent immigration raids that have shaken communities and individuals across the country. The protest coincided with Trump’s 79th birthday and his military parade for the US Army’s 250th Anniversary.

The Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo spoke at Bryant Park’s protest in New York City, rallying the crowd, “It’s on us guys, literally, together, we’re the Avengers right now. No one’s gonna come and save us, man. Americans unite.” He was joined on stage by actress Susan Sarandon, who has previously run into trouble over her comments about Israel.

At the protest, MSNBC asked Ruffalo what was motivating the people to protest, despite the unrelenting rain. Ruffalo responded, “We see our democracy is in real trouble.”

He continued, “We see a president who has made himself a king and a dictator, and we don’t see an opposition that’s powerful enough to stand up against the trampling of our rights and the trampling of the Constitution that’s happening every single day with executive orders, with the refusal to obey court orders, kidnapping of immigrants, people who are here legally, people who their children are being taken from them.”

He added, “We’re disgusted and we’re scared and we know that the only way to fight this now is to come together.”

Many other stars showed their support at the protests, with The Bear star Ayo Edebiri posting photos of protest signs on her Instagram stories, one reading, “I love you and I have your back! Stay brave!” The other, “History is screaming. Are you listening?”

Kerry Washington posted photos of herself at a protest, writing, “#NoKings, just some QUEENS I found marching, speaking up, and fighting for democracy.”

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel also attended a rally, this one in Los Angeles, where protests against ICE recently erupted after numerous immigration raids. Kimmel shared a photo of himself and his family at the protest, writing, “A huge, inspiring and yes – peaceful – turnout in the South Bay. I met many people who love this country and still believe it to be a force for good.

“I am grateful to see so many Americans take action to stand up for our friends and neighbours, most of all, my parents. I know how fortunate I am to have been born into a family that taught me to care about others, and that the most important words ever spoken are ‘Love one another.’ It really is as simple as that.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus shared a photo of herself at a march with the sign, “The only Monarch I like is a butterfly.”

Natasha Rothwell also shared a pointed message on Instagram, a photo of herself with a sign and the straight-to-the-point statement to Trump, “You Are Trash.”
