Mark Ruffalo, who stars in the critical hit The Kids Are All Right, is in talks to take on the role of The Incredible Hulk in the superhero ensemble flick The Avengers, set for release in 2012.
Marvel Studios is looking for a Bruce Banner replacement after firing Edward Norton over creative differences. "The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert [Downey, Jr.], Chris H. [Hemsworth], Chris E. [Evans], Sam [Samuel L. Jackson], Scarlett [Johansson], and all of our talented casts," Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ President of Production, said in a statement. "We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements and is passionate about the iconic role, in the coming weeks."
Norton’s agent, Brian Swardstrom, told HitFix.com that the statement was "unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory," while Norton released a calm message to fans on Facebook saying, "I sincerely hoped it could happen and be great for everyone, but it hasn’t turned out as well as we hoped. I know this is disappointing to many people and that makes me sad." –ANDREW BANKIN
