Marion Cotillard Confirms Pregnancy, Denies Affair With ‘Allied’ Costar Brad Pitt In Statement

Marion Cotillard unexpectedly got dragged into the tabloids after it was reported that Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, and opted to release a statement to set the record straight.

French actress Cotillard stars opposite Pitt in Robert Zemeckis‘s upcoming romantic thriller Allied that’s set in World War II. Almost immediately after it was revealed that Pitt and Jolie were headed for divorce, rumors suggested that an on-set affair with Cotillard was the root cause. In an effort to stop the speculation, Cotillard released a statement on Instagram.

“This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into,” Cotillard began. “I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.”

Cotillard went on to mention her longtime partner Guillaume Canet, with whom she’s been with for nearly 10 years and with whom she has a son named Marcel. In her statement, Cotillard confirmed that she is expecting a second child with Canet – not with Pitt. “Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting,” Cotillard wrote. “He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.”

As for reports that claim that Cotillard is “devastated” at being dragged into the divorce stories, the actress says that that is untrue. She also wishes Pitt and Jolie well as they go through their split.

“Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery,” wrote Cotillard. “Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment. With all my love, Marion.”

As was originally reported, Jolie was reportedly motivated to file for divorce from Pitt over his parenting of their children, sources told TMZ, claiming that Jolie was “extremely upset with his methods.” According to their sources, it was Pitt’s parenting – not a cheating scandal with Cotillard or anyone else – that led to the split.

Pitt is apparently under investigation for child abuse by the Los Angeles Police Department and the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services for an alleged incident that occurred on a private plane on Sept. 14, a day before Jolie filed for separation. Last Wednesday, an anonymous person reported that Pitt had become “verbally abusive” and “physical” with one of their children while the other kids were present. The report also alleges that Pitt was intoxicated at the time.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on Monday, Sept. 19 after two years of marriage and more than 10 years as a couple. The A-list pair are parents to six children – Maddox, 14, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10 and 8-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
