Mariah Carey opens up about her upcoming marriage to James Packer and her failed marriage to Nick Cannon in a new interview released on Thursday.

Carey admitted to Complex magazine that she does regret her divorce to Cannon and never expected to divorce the father of her children.

“I never thought I would [have kids] either,” Carey said. “But I never thought I would have babies with someone and then get divorced. Like, ‘Oh, great job. Repeat your past.’”

“But life happens,” the pop singer added. “It’s fine. For [my twins Moroccan and Monroe], I wish it hadn’t happened that way. For me, it was… Guess it’s over. Call it a day.”

Carey and Australian businessman Packer got engaged in January after dating about a year — and Carey shared that though the couple lead busy lives they understand each other.

“I don’t expect him to be at every little thing that I do, and vice versa,” Carey explained. “He’s got a lot of stuff on his plate and so do I. There’s a mutual understanding.”

When asked if her upcoming nuptials can be described as a “merger” and if bringing two moguls together is difficult the singer confirmed that it is a challenge.

“We would like for it not to be a big thing, but the reality is it has to be,” Carey said. “Because there’s things that are specifically mine, and he’s got huge friggin’ conglomerate stuff and I’m not looking to take that from him. So it has to be dealt with.”

“Anytime you get married to somebody [it does] — and I should know. This’ll be marriage number three,” Carey joked.

“My bishop said to me, ‘I don’t want you to go Elizabeth Taylor on me!,”’ Carey recalled. “I said, ‘I’m not’—and then I said ‘Bye.’”
