On the latest episode of Las Culturistas, Mariah Carey sat down with hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers to explain why she feels the Grammys “scammed” her.
Despite the singer’s record-breaking career spanning four decades and 34 nominations, the singer has only five Grammy wins.
In the interview, Rogers mentioned that the singer “doesn’t have enough of those, by the way.”
In classic Carey fashion, she responded, “They scammed me. They toy with me.”
Carey won two Grammys for her debut single, “Vision of Love”, in 1991 and three more during her Emancipation of Mimi comeback era in 2006. Two Grammys were for the single “We Belong Together” and one for the album.
Yang and Rogers mentioned her sixth studio LP, Butterfly, in which Carey said, “It has very special significance to me…I think it’s probably my best album.”
Agreeing with Carey, Rogers added, “I don’t know how it doesn’t have all of the accolades,” to which the singer replied, “It has zero accolades!”
While Butterfly was nominated for three Grammys and often credited for changing the face of pop music, Carey took home no wins on the album.
Carey’s last Grammy nomination was in 2009 for Best Gospel Performance, but she has not been given the chance for an award since.
Last month, Carrey suffered a blow when both her mother and sister died on the same day.
