Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj Won’t Return To 'American Idol'
Mariah Carey has confirmed that she won’t be returning to the American Idol judges panel for next season. Her announcement is coming on the heels of fellow judge Nicki Minaj’s confirmation that she would be leaving the competition on Thursday.
“W/ global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol,” Carey’s PR firm tweeted. Carey has a busy few months ahead of her, as she’s currently finishing up an album, has new movie The Butler coming out in August and a world tour kicking off in October, her publicist Cindi Berger told ABC News.
Carey is currently performing with Miguel in the GMA concert series.
Minaj, with whom Carey feuded with for much of the American Idol season, is also content to call her first year with the show her last. “Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world!” Minaj tweeted on Thursday. “Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!”
Randy Jackson, who is the only remaining original American Idol judge, was the first to announce that he would not be returning for the show’s 13th season. Country singer Keith Urban is the only judge from last season who might return.
