Starz is developing a new TV drama about the life and rise to fame of Mariah Carey.
Carey is slated to serve as executive producer on the project alongside lifelong friend Brett Ratner. The show will be a fictional, scripted series based on the singer’s start as an aspiring talent. The thus unnamed show was written and directed by Nina Colman and follows a 16-year-old biracial girl in 1986 New York, who overcomes childhood hardship and ultimately earns great fame in the music industry.

Carey began her career in 1990 and, within one year, had released five Hot #100 hits – “Vision of Love,” “Love Takes Time,” “Someday,” “I Don’t Wanna Cry,” and “Emotions.”
The singer isa five-time Grammy winner, holds a Las Vegas residency, but is also scheduled to tour North America with Lionel Richie. Carey already has experience working in television via her E! docu-series Mariah’s World.
