Mariah Carey Didn’t Reach Out To Estranged Sister Alison Before Her Death Despite Being Told She Was Dying

Mariah Carey made no effort to contact her estranged sister, Alison Carey, despite knowing she was terminally ill, according to a close friend of Alison.

David Baker, who identified himself as Alison’s confidant, told The US Sun that the pop singer was aware of her older sister’s failing health but refused to contact her. Baker noted Alison was placed in hospice care weeks before her passing, yet Mariah remained distant.

“Mariah knew her sister was dying, but never tried to contact her,” Baker stated. “Even a brief phone call or video chat would have meant everything to Alison. That call never came.”

The friend described Alison as “unhappy” about the estrangement from her famous sister. Baker added that the perceived rejection “only compounded Alison’s suffering” in her final days.

“Alison often spoke about the rift,” Baker revealed. “She wondered if Mariah or any family members would attend her funeral.”

The sisters’ relationship had been strained for years, with tensions rising after the publication of Mariah’s 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. The book prompted Alison and their brother, Morgan Carey, to file lawsuits against the singer for defamation and emotional distress.

Court documents from the lawsuit noted Alison’s numerous health challenges, including alcohol addiction, a traumatic brain injury from a 2015 incident and various physical ailments.

In a twist of fate, Mariah’s mother died the same day as Alison. The pop icon released a statement acknowledging her mother’s death and requesting privacy but made no mention of her sister’s passing.

“I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey said in a statement.
