Mariah Carey is being accused of lip-syncing her performance at the BET Awards Sunday night.
Carey, 43, sang her new song #Beautiful with Miguel and Young Jeezy Sunday night in a performance that many believe was lip-synced. People have accused the vocals of being too perfect and noticed a lag between them and Carey’s mouth movements.
Before the show, Nick Canon, Carey’s husband, teased that the performance would be spectacular and all her. “My wife is a perfectionist and clearly because she's done it right all her life. So she actually puts a lot of work into these performances," Cannon, 32, told E! News. "There's no management helping make decisions. Everything you see is all her, whether it's a collaboration when the lights hit, how she enters, she's doing all of that."
While some have speculated that Carey allegedly lip-synced because she can no longer reach her famous higher-register, others have argued that the complexity of the song would make it difficult for Carey to lip-sync.
This isn’t the first time Carey has been accused of faking it on stage – she was accused of lip-syncing #Beautiful on the American Idol finale on May 16.
#Beautiful was released on May 6, and is the first single off her upcoming album The Art of Letting Go. Carey’s rep has yet to comment on Sunday’s alleged incident.
