Maria Menounos, the TV host, had been picked up upon landing in an NYC airport when the vehicle she was traveling in was attacked on the Van Wyck Expressway.
Menounos, 36, documented the scary incident on Twitter and Instagram. “Omg this just happened. Huge explosion thought we got shot,” she captioned a picture of the damage done to the car. “Now we think someone approached the car in traffic and blew out our window.”
Menounos then shared a picture of the weapon they used to inflict the damage on the car – a tire iron.
“It really felt like something out of a movie," Menounos told E! News. "I heard an explosion and I started screaming, 'Everyone down, we're being shot at. Everyone down!"
"We didn't know if we were being targeted," she added, noting it’s possible the individual planned to rob them, but then noticed a police car nearby.
Adding some levity to the situation was Menounos’ driver, who admitted that in all of his days of driving, not even with Snoop dog in the backseat had he experienced anything like that.
