Former President Donald Trump was ridiculed this past weekend when a note at his Mar-a-Lago club advertised that “great music will be played during dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, with President Trump playing the role of disc jockey.”
The note, which went out to paying members of his Mar-a-Lago club, was shared by New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, and the DJ nights were apparently meant to “go until the late evening.” They even seemed to expect heavy attendance, saying that the bar would be open for “those who will be unable to be seated.”
Trump is reportedly a big fan of classic rock, show tunes and classic singers like Frank Sinatra. While on the campaign trail, Trump received the public ire of several rock stars for using their music without permission at his rallies including members of R.E.M., The Rolling Stones and Elton John.
John Fogerty, of the band Creedence Clearwater Revival, took his protest a step further by sending a cease and desist letter to Trump when he heard that the CCR song “Fortunate Son” was used at one of his rallies.
Fogerty said in a statement, “I wrote this song because, as a veteran, I was disgusted that some people were allowed to be excluded from serving our country because they had access to political and financial privilege. I also wrote about wealthy people not paying their fair share of taxes. Mr. Trump is a prime example of both of these issues.”
