Mana Announces ‘Latino Power’ Tour In The Name Of Latino Voting Power

The top-selling Latin rock band of all time, Maná, has announced that its new tour will be a call to vote for Latinos across the nation.

“We have baptized our tour ‘Latino Power’ because with the strength of their collective vote this year, U.S. Latinos can further empower our community, demanding more respect and effecting real change in the living conditions and opportunities for our people,” said lead singer, Fher Olvera.

Maná has been active in other social causes, including immigration rights and voting rights. They also very publicly opposed Donald Trump last summer. Fher said of Trump’s anti-immigrant comments, “I have never heard a speech as violent or as filled with hatred… not since Hitler.”

“It doesn’t matter what one cabrón said,” Olvera continued. “Just remember that he insults our fathers, our mothers. He insulted everyone. And that is inadmissible. When you go out to vote, which is soon, you know what you have to do.”

Fher is continuing this message, as his tour will run right through election season.

And otherwise, Maná has not endorsed any political candidate.

“People can vote for whomever they want,” Olvera told Billboard last fall, “But discriminating people for the color of their skin or their religion is simply immoral.”

Since its formation in the 80s in Mexico, Maná has sold more than 40 million albums and won four Grammys and eight Latin Grammys. They are the top-drawing Spanish language band in the U.S.

Maná announced this on the Jimmy Kimmel Live where they appeared in celebration of their new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The tour will kick off on Sept. 9 in San Diego. Tickets go on sale on Feb. 19 at LiveNation.com.
