Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, is getting ready to receive her learner’s permit.
Malia, 14, turns 15 on July 4, when she’ll be eligible to get her learner’s permit in Washington, D.C. Michelle Obama joked about the major milestone coming in the near future for Malia while making the talk show rounds earlier this week.
“One child is going to be driving this summer,” she told Access Hollywood on Tuesday. “Look out.”
Neither the president nor First Lady will be teaching Malia how to drive. The main reason that the task will be delegated is due to concern for the safety of the Obamas, according to the FLOTUS.
“I think our agents don’t want us driving with teenagers,” Michelle Obama said on Live! Kelly and Michael. “I don’t think they want [the President] in the state when she’s learning how to drive. We will, fortunately, be able to hand that responsibility over to someone else.”
It’s unknown if a secret agent will be tasked with teaching Malia how to drive. It’s possible that an instructor will be hired and Malia’s detail will keep an eye on things from the backseat. The mother of two declined to give further details, simply stating, “We’ve got a plan.”
