A piece of debris suspected to be part of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 was found on Mauritius Island and is set to be examined.

The debris was found by two hotel guests staying at the Mourouk Ebony Hotel on Thursday on the coast of Rodrigues Island, an employee of the Mourouk Ebony Hotel told CNN on Saturday.

Australia has been searching for the missing plane that carried 239 people. Transport Minister Darren Chester said the debris, found last week, was an “item of interest.”

“The Malaysian government is working with officials from Mauritius to seek to take custody of the debris and arrange for its examination,” Chester said in a statement.

It is still unknown what part of the plane the debris is from. “Until the debris has been examined by experts, it is not possible to ascertain its origin,” he said.

Owner of the hotel, William Auguste, also confirmed that the debris was found by guests.

“For sure it looked like part of an aeroplane — it looks like it’s from the inside part of it,” Auguste said. He added: “There was wallpaper inside of the plane, you can see this design and part of it is still there.”

Auguste said the wreckage was taken to police.

Pilot, Mike Exner tweeted, “#MH370 “Debris @ beach Var-Brûlé, between Mourouk & Gravel,Rodrigues “. Looks like a match w/ MAS bulkhead. TNX Don”
