Lord of the Rings and Hobbit director Peter Jackson has lent his plane to the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

Jackson personally agreed to allow his plane to be chartered for the search effort, a spokesperson for the director told Radio New Zealand. It’s unknown whether or not Jackson, who’s reportedly worth more than $500 million, received payment for the use of hit G650 – "an ultra-high-speed, ultra-long-range business jet,” according to Gulfstream. Jackson purchased the plane, which can travel 7,000 miles nonstop, in March 2013 for $68 million.

Although the Joint Agency Co-ordination Centre would not confirm that Jackson’s plane was involved in the search, the centre did admit that a civilian jet was being put to use. It is reportedly being tasked as a communications relay for the military aircraft scouring the seas for the missing Boeing 777.

Flight MH370 has been missing since March 8, when it left Kuala Lumpur for Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board. While all passengers have been cleared of any likely involvement in the plane’s demise, decisive action by members of the crew – including pilots Zaharie Ahmad Shah and Fariq Abdul Hamid – has yet to be ruled out.
