Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370 Update: Debris Found In Indian Ocean Could Be Part Of Missing Plane

Update: 6:08 p.m. EST

Authorities are investigating whether plane debris found off the coast of Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean could belong to the mysteriously disappeared Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Early reports by CNN say the debris appears to be part of a Boeing 777, the same plane as Flight MH 370, and, if that’s the case, then it likely does belong to the missing flight.

Debris Found In Indian Ocean Could Belong To MH 370

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370 went missing on March 8, 2014, and no debris from the flight has ever been recovered despite an extensive search. The mystery of what happened to MH3 370 that once consumed the news has lessened a bit since May, when a private company claimed to have found debris from the missing flight.

It was announced on Wednesday that a new piece of unidentified debris discovered in the French department of the Indian Ocean is being investigated for possible connections to Flight MH 370. However, authorities warned people against making any assumptions about the nature of the debris. “It is way too soon to say whether or not it is MH 370. We just found the debris this morning,” said Christian Retournat of the French Air Force.

The piece of debris has been identified as likely belonging to a wing of an airplane, but no other information has been released.
