Users on TikTok don’t seem to be very receptive to older users on the platform, even when they created a sound that’s going viral on the app. When the pop sensation Madonna started posting selfie videos on TikTok, some have been responding calling the videos unsettling and questioning her appearance in them.
One video included the viral sound, a remix of her 1998 song “Frozen,” and showed her leaning back and then approaching the camera slowly to pucker her lips at the camera. The video was deleted, but one user shared it on Twitter saying “Madonna looking rough AF,” and other close-up videos still up have similarly critical comments under them.
Sure, there’s something slightly off-putting about the singer’s drooped eyelids and slow movement not in the beat of the song, but she should be able to post a video without so many trolling comments. One top comment on a similar video said “this scared me so bad,” and had over 30 thousand likes. Some were still defending her, though, with the most-liked comment on this video being, “You’re allowed to look over 20…” likely a response to several users pointing out Madonna’s age.
Madonna is also in the middle of casting herself for her official biopic, which she co-wrote with Diablo Cody. Some of the final actresses in the running are Florence Pugh, Julia Garner, and one of Euphoria’s breakout stars Alexa Demie. Auditions have been demanding, as whoever steps into the role will have to be convincingly like Madonna through acting, dancing and singing.
