A judge in Malawi rejected Madonna's adoption application for a young girl on Friday morning citing a residency requirement. Prospective parents are required to live 18 to 24 months in Malawi. Madonna met the child, 3-year-old Mercy James, in an orphanage in 2006. Madonna, 50, adopted her son, David Banda, 3, from Malawi in 2008. At the hearing, the judge declared that the state is required to find suitable prospective parents and "not someone who just flies in and out…. I think the welfare of [Mercy] will be better served if she grows within the environment of Malawi." (Photo: WENN)
