Madonna will be accompanying Miley Cyrus on the MTV Unplugged stage on Wednesday night to perform what’s sure to be an epic mashup.
Pop icon Madonna and Cyrus – who’s been carving out a firm hold for herself in the industry – will perform a mashup of 2013 summer anthem “We Can’t Stop” and Madonna’s country-inspired “Don’t Tell Me.”
Around the time that MTV announced Madonna’s guest appearance on the special, the Material Girl uploaded a picture of herself and Miley during filming. Both of the pop singers were sporting western-inspired jackets with some unique flare. Madonna captioned the snap, “M &M ! Don"t ever Tell us We Can't STOP!#revolutionoflove”
Cyrus tweeted Madonna’s picture out to her followers, writing, “ITS WE WHO BOUT THAT LIFE!”
After the taping on the Hollywood soundstage on Tuesday, Cyrus gushed about the opportunity. "That was pretty f–king cool you guys. It was one of those days that was pretty easy to get out of bed. I get to perform with Madonna in bedazzled cowboy boots," she said, according to the Daily Mail. "I can't really complain about anything." In the midst of the duet, Cyrus even managed to spank her music idol, a move which has become a recent signature in Cyrus performances – in addition to the crotch grabbing and tongue wagging.
While Cyrus’s music has veered in the direction of pop/ hip-hop & R&B from the country pop of some of her earlier songs, Cyrus endeavored to weave the country influence into her songs for her Unplugged set. "I'm from Nashville," she said. "And since I couldn't make all of you guys go back home with me, I tried to bring Nashville here for the night."
Madonna, who gladly joined in the country gimmick, performed earlier this week at the 2014 Grammys. After Queen Latifa married 33 gay and straight couples during Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ performance of same-sex marriage anthem “Same Love,” she came out to sing “Open Your Heart” in a white tux and hat.
