Pop sensation Madonna is set to direct and cowrite a romantic comedy about the budding love between Britain’s King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson, which resulted in the King’s abdication. The film will be cowritten with Alex Keshishian, who directed Madonna’s tour documentary Truth or Dare.
Up In The Air star Vera Farmiga is set to play Simpson, and it’s rumored that Madonna wants David Tennant to play Britain’s King Edward. This is Madonna’s second attempt at directing a movie – in 2008 she helmed the indie movie Filth and Wisdom, which was slammed by critics. –MANDY COHEN in London
