Madonna celebrated her 59th birthday on Aug. 16 and posted a family shot to her Instagram page.
The photo included herself surrounded by all six of her children, the first time the singer has shared a picture with her entire brood. The family consists of sons Rocco, 17, and David, 11, and daughters Mercy James, 11, Lourdes, 20, and Esterre and Stella, both 4.
The youngest twins joined the family this past February when Madonna adopted them from Malawi. “I am deeply grateful to all those in Malawi who helped make this possible, and I ask the media please to respect our privacy during this transitional time,” the singer wrote on Instagram at the time.
Madonna began an organization called Raising Malawi, which aims to improve the lives of children in the African nation. This year for Madonna’s birthday, the charity launched a campaign to completely stock their new pediatric ward with supplies as Madonna’s Mercy James Children’s Hospital that opened in July.
