Madonna Poses In Corset, Promoting 30th Anniversary Exhibition Of Her Controversial ‘S.E.X.’ Book
Madonna uploaded a photo on Instagram of herself posing in a fitted corset, celebrating the new edition of her Sex coffee table book.
The seven-time Grammy winner, 64, showcased her fit physique to promote the upcoming exhibition from Nov. 29 to Dec. 4. “I’d like to put you in a trance. …………… YSL presents. SEX-Re-Release 💦 Miami Nov 29- Dec 4,” she wrote in the caption.
The book was first published in 1992. While attracting controversy and backlash at the time, its social and cultural impact endures today, especially among LGBTQ people.
Now, 30 years after its debut, Yves Saint Laurent Rive Droit is reissuing the book with a new edition. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Madonna and Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello have teamed up and co-curate an exhibition at Art Basel.
In October, she recalled the experience of publishing the book and the criticism she received. “30 years ago I published a book called S.E.X. In addition to photos of me naked there were photos of Men kissing Men, Woman kissing Woman and Me kissing everyone,” she wrote.
“I spent the next few years being interviewed by narrow-minded people who tried to shame me for empowering myself as a Woman,” she continued. “Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her naked ass and Miley Cyrus can come in like a wrecking ball. You’re welcome b****es.”
The post briefly caused a rift between Cardi B. and Madonna.
