Almost a month before she sets off on her North American Celebration tour, Madonna hit #1 on five Billboard charts with her new collaboration featuring the Weeknd and Playboi Carti, “Popular.”
Although the 64-year-old singer’s music career has been wildly successful for over 40 years, this is the first time the Queen of Pop has been on the Billboard pop charts in each decade.
Madonna has now had songs debut in the Billboard Top 100 in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and the 2020s.
Cher is the only other artist to achieve this feat. Her songs debuted from the 1960s to the 2000s.
“Popular,” written by the Weeknd, was released on June 2 and is the second single released to accompany the singer’s new HBO drama, The Idol.
In a recent interview with Zane Low on Apple Music 1, the Weeknd called Madonna “the ultimate co-sign for this song.”
“I’ve always wanted to work with her,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to write and produce a Madonna album… well, co-produce with her, of course. She’s a visionary and she has such a singular vision, and I just want to come into her world and create a classic Madonna album. That was always my dream. Hopefully this is the appetizer for that.”

Another notable collaboration was also released earlier this month, “Vulgar” with Sam Smith.
In preparation for her Celebration Tour, the “Material Girl” singer took to social media to post a tease for her upcoming shows. In it, multiple people are asked to describe her tour with one word.
Some answers were “indescribable,” “ridiculous,” “educational,” “family” and “heartbreaking.”
Many fans noted the heavily retouched images that made her look almost unrecognizable. Madonna was widely mocked for her strange appearance at the Grammys this year. She later hit back against the “ageism and misogyn” of the reaction.
The North American tour is set to begin on July 15 in Vancouver and end in Mexico City on January 30, 2024.
